Council Office Legislative Aide

The Office of Jersey City Council Member Jake Ephros is seeking a Legislative Aide to develop the legislative work of the Ward D council office. This position plays a key role in advancing the Council Member’s policy agenda and contributing to overall success of the council office.

We are looking for someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment, is passionate about public service, and can balance big-picture strategy with detail-oriented execution. Background in government or service to an elected official is a strong plus.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Legislation: Responsible for initial research toward legislative priorities of the council office. Draft, advance, and secure passage of bills sponsored by the Council Member, including building co-sponsorship, developing stakeholder support, creating educational/promotional materials, and tracking legislative progress.

Political vision: Contribute to short-term and long-term political vision for building working class power in Jersey City’s Ward D and beyond.

Budget management: Administer allocations for in-district capital projects and community organizations, while providing research and policy support on the citywide budget process.

Policy presentation: Present on legislative research, potential ordinances and resolutions, and relevant policy to council office team, other council offices, and community members and organizational stakeholders.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to clearly communicate complex topics. 

  • Strong organizational skills and meticulous attention to detail.

  • Deep interest in Jersey City government, enthusiasm for public policy centered around working class interests.

  • Experience in policy studies and research, urban planning, or community campaigns preferred.

  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, as needed.

  • Calm under pressure and adaptable in a high-stakes, fast-moving political environment.

  • Creative, strategic thinker with problem-solving skills.

  • Commitment to equity and passion for improving the lives of all Jersey City residents.

Pay: $75,000.00 per year

Council Office Community Organizer

The Office of Jersey City Council Member Jake Ephros is seeking a Community Organizer to help organize community members and deliver constituents services through the Ward D council office. This position plays a key role in working closely with residents to meet their needs, advancing the Council Member’s community- and base-building agenda, and contributing to overall success of the council office.

We are looking for someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment, is passionate about public service, and can balance big-picture strategy with detail-oriented execution. Background in government or service to an elected official is a strong plus.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Constituent Services: Staff the Ward D council/campaign office on a regular basis. Meet with and conduct intake for constituents, and ensure individual cases are being followed up with solutions. Manage Ward D council office constituent service form, relevant constituent emails, and weekly monitoring of Jersey City’s SeeClickFix and other resident response infrastructure.

Stakeholder engagement: Work with the Council Member and Chief of Staff to develop relationships with advocates, community leaders, and government officials to advance policy and budget priorities.

Public events: Help plan rallies, press conferences, and public events in support of legislative and budget initiatives.

Office management: Support Chief of Staff’s office operations and Council Member scheduling, including weekend/evening community events, answering phones, and casework assistance as needed.

Communications: Support Chief of Staff in developing public-facing content, talking points, briefing memos, and data.

Political vision: Contribute to short-term and long-term political vision for building working class power in Jersey City’s Ward D and beyond.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with superb patience and listening abilities, and initiative for proactive relationship-building.

  • Strong organizational skills and meticulous attention to detail.

  • Deep interest in Jersey City government, with willingness to engage in legislative and budget processes.

  • Experience in community organizing, public service, or urban planning desired.

  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, as needed.

  • Calm under pressure and adaptable in a high-stakes, fast-moving political environment.

  • Creative, strategic thinker with problem-solving skills.

  • Commitment to equity and passion for improving the lives of all Jersey City residents.

  • Bilingual/multilingual skills a plus (esp. Spanish, Hindi, Gujarati)

The Office of Jersey City Council Member Jake Ephros is seeking a Media Aide to manage media and communications for the Ward D council office. This position plays a key role in bringing the council office to the public through social media, traditional media, news spots, and more.

We are looking for someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment, is passionate about public service, and can balance big-picture strategy with detail-oriented execution. Background in government or service to an elected official is a strong plus.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Media: Develop and maintain strong social media presence and digital organizing apparatus over relevant platforms for reaching constituents (e.g. Facebook and Instagram). Land news spots in local, state, and when relevant, national outlets.  

Content Creation: Responsible for crafting public facing content for the Council Office, including videos, photos, and social media posts.

Social Media Management: Responsible for curating content and maintaining a content calendar for the Council Office, and responding to constituent messages on various social media platforms.

Media Relations: Responsible for crafting press releases, building and maintaining relationships with local & national media outlets & key opinion leaders.

Independent community communications: Help create means of independent communications with the community, outside of private media platforms, such as through Ward D council office electronic newsletter.

Policy presentation: Support Legislative Aide in presenting policy to the public and to organizational stakeholders.
