About the Office

The Ward D Council Office serves the residents of Jersey City's Ward D under Councilmember Jake Ephros. Our work spans constituent services, policy research, community organizing, and legislative drafting. We are a small, fast-moving team that works across a wide range of issues affecting everyday Jersey City residents, from housing and transportation to emerging technology and urban planning.

We are looking for young people interested in the municipal legislative process and local government to join us this summer and gain firsthand experience in how their city works. We will provide comprehensive training for the position.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct research on legislation, policy precedents, and case studies relevant to ongoing council priorities

  • Liaise with city departments, non-profits, community organizations, and other elected offices on behalf of the Ward D Council Office

  • Assist with organizing community events, town halls, and public actions, including logistics, outreach, and day-of coordination

  • Assist with outreach to constituents

  • Support the creation of content for social media, newsletters, and other constituent communications

  • Provide general administrative and operational support to the council office as needed

Qualifications

  • Genuine interest in local government, municipal politics, policy research, and community organizing

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and shifting priorities in a fast-paced environment

  • Reliability, follow-through, and a collaborative attitude

  • Residency in Jersey City is preferred but not required

  • Bilingual or multilingual a plus

Expectations

Interns are expected to work around 10 hr/week. Upon successful completion of the internship, the Ward D Council Office will provide a letter of recommendation as well as a letter of support for the intern to be used in future academic and other endeavors.
